Potala Palace, situated on the Red Hill in Lhasa, means "the Sacred Palace of Buddhism" in Sanskrit. Known as a historical and cultural museum of Tibetan Buddhism, the Potala Palace houses many artifacts of ancient Tibet, such as frescos, stupas and images of Buddha. People feel amazing about the colorful sculptures and paintings there. In December 1994, the Potala Palace of Lhasa was put on the UNESCO's list of World Cultural Heritage. Located on Barkhor Square in Lhasa, the Jokhang Temple is the first Buddhist temple in Tibet. It is also the Sacred Temple of all Tibetan Buddhists. All year-round many Tibetan Buddhists go on a pilgrimage to Lhasa, from all over Tibet and other provinces like Qinghai, Gansu and Inner Mongolia, and their destination is the Jokhang Temple. Along with the Potala Palace, it is probably the most popular tourist attraction in Lhasa. Located at the foot of Mount Gephel Drepung Monastery, Drepung Monastery is one of the "great three" Gelukpa university monasteries of Tibet. The other two are Ganden and Sera. Drepung Monastery used to be the largest and most influential monastery, with more than 10,000 monks. View Photos
Ganden Monastery is located in the Tagtse County, 47 kilometers (29 miles) from Lhasa City, atop the Wangbur Mountain at an altitude of 3800m. It is one of the 'great three' Gelukpa university monasteries of Tibet. The other two 'great monasteries' are Sera Monastery and Drepung Monastery.

Located in the northern suburb of Lhasa City, Sera Monastery is one of the three famous monasteries in Lhasa together with the Ganden Monastery and the Drepung Monastery. The Sera Monastery is dedicated to the Gelugpa or Yellow Hat Sect, a branch of Tibetan Buddhism, founded by Tsong Khapa. Located in the northwest of Lhasa, Ramoche Temple is an important temple in Tibet, covering an area of 4000 square meters. This temple is one of the key cultural relic protection sites of the Tibet Autonomous Region as well as a popular attraction in Lhasa. Nowadays, the monastery has become the very place for the Tibetan monks to study the Mi Zong (one of the sect of Buddhism).

Tibet Museum is located at the southeast corner of the Norbulingka Road in Lhasa. It covers an area of 23,508 square meters (5.8 acres) including the exhibition area of 10,451 square meters (2.6 acres). It is the first large-sized comprehensive modern museum in the Tibet Autonomous Region; it is a brilliant literary and arts palace of the Tibetan people, a gem of Tibetan civilization and a treasure house of Tibetan cultural relics. NorbuLingka is called the Summer Palace of Tibet, about one km (about 0.6 mile) southwest of Potala Palace. Covering an area of 360,000 square meters (about 430,000 square yards), with 374 rooms inside, it is the biggest man-made garden in Tibet Autonomous Region. In 2001, it was listed as the World Heritage Site as part of the "Historic Ensemble of the Potala Palace" by UNESCO.

Situated about 90 kilometers northwest to Lhasa City, the Yangpachen has the unique resources: hot springs, which covers an area of 40 square kilometers. Yangpachen gains its fame from the abundant geothermic heat which provides people with much to explore. Its grass is green all year-round; even during bitter winter when the temperature is usually -20 C, its hot spring water is still 30 - 40 C.
