Chongqing People's Hall is an architectural symbol of Chongqing. It was designed in the traditional symmetrical and beautifully-proportioned style of Ming and Qing dynasties' palaces. It looks like the enlarged version of the sacramental Temple of Heaven in Beijing, or an ancient imperial palace of China.
The construction of Chongqing People's Hall began on June 1951 and completed in 1954. The auditorium consists of three parts: the great hall, the North Wing and the South Wing on each side of the hall, and the Pailou Archway by the street. It takes up a total area of 66,000 sq. m and 65m height and the auditorium is 55 meters high. This circular auditorium has a seating capacity of 4200 and is surrounded by five-storey buildings outside. The dome with its green glazed tiles makes the building looks like the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, the porch in front of the hall with its red columns and white marble rails reminds people of the Tian An Men gate in Beijing. The square is paved with smooth and shining marble tiles; there are also magic music fountain and green meadow; at the southern end of the square stands a stage for performances in the open air. Another time to visit Chongqing People’s Hall is in the evening, you may see thousands of people dancing and singing on the square.
Whenever go to Chongqing, Chongqing People’s Hall, as a tourist attraction, must be seen.
