Situated at southeast of Guilin city and western bank of Li-River, Elephant Trunk Hill (Xiangbishan) is regarded as the symbol of Guilin itself. On hilltop stands the Puxian Pagoda which was built in the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), it looks like the handle of a sword. It is about 55 meters high, 108 meters long, 100 meters wide and has an elevation of 200 meters above sea level.
It's made from the seabed limestone which at least 3.6 hundred million years ago. Elephant Trunk hill are made up of Water Moon Cave, Elephant hill park, Elephant's Eye rock, Puxian Pagoda and Yunfeng Temple. Especially the Water Moon Cave could catch your eyes firstly, it is a semi-round cave penetrated by water. The inverted reflection of the cave in water plus the part above forms a full moon. Besides, there are over seventy inscriptions were engraved by famous litterateur of Tang and Song dynasty (AD618 – AD1279) around this cave, that’s Puxian Pagoda stand on the top of Elephant Trunk hill. It was built in Ming dynasty (600 years ago), it looks like the sword's handle.
