Chengdu is the most important transportation hub in southwestern China.
Chengdu is served by the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport located 16 km southwest of downtown. This airport offers service to several domestic and international destinations. Regular destinations include Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, Hong Kong and Dalian as well as frequent flights to Bangkok, Singapore, Seoul and Lhasa. Departing visitors from Chengdu can take a 20-minute shuttle bus (3 RMB) from the China Southwest Airlines office on Renmin Nan Lu. A taxi from the center of town to the airport costs around 30 RMB.
As the largest railway hub in southwest China, Chengdu Railway Station has trains to major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Urumqi, Xian, etc. A tourist express train serves neighboring areas including Guangyuan City, Yibin City, and Panzhihua City.
Buses offer easy access to most of the scenic spots around Chengdu including Yibing, Emei Shan, and Le Shan. It takes five hours from Chengdu to Chongqing by bus. There are three bus stations in Chengdu: the Xinnanmen Bus Station, offering buses heading for most Southern, Western or Eastern destinations around Sichuan, the North Bus Station near the North Train Station offering frequent minibuses to Chongqing, and Ximen Bus Station offering buses head north to places like Jiuzhaigou and Songpan.
Located to the Northwest of Chongqing, Chengdu has no direct access to the Yangtze River, or any other river. However, to ensure that Chengdu's goods are able to access the river efficiently, the port cities of Yibin and Luzhou have begun a process of large scale port development, and as materials to support the rebuilding of northern Sichuan begin their movement from the East Coast to Sichuan, these ports will see significant throughput.
The starting price is 5 Yuan (for the first 1 km) andit it's then 1.4 Yuan for every additional km. A 50% return charge is required when the distance exceeds 7 km.
A subway system with seven lines is planned for Chengdu. Line 1 is under construction.
