Due to the wide variety of inexpensive clothing, electronics, and other consumer goods available in its stores, markets and malls, Guangzhou is really a shopper's paradise. When one first come to Guangzhou, the first choices for most locals wanting to show off Guangzhou's shopping opportunities to visitors are usually Shanxiajiu Pedestrian Street and Zhongshan Wulu – Beijing Lu; however the city has nearly a dozen important Shopping Districts.
Best known for its low prices and trendy clothes, Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street is one of the three major shopping streets in Guangzhou. The street starts at Shangjiu Street and extends westward through Xiajiu Street to Dishifu Street. The street is lined with more than 200 shops, with clothes boutiques and shoe stores predominating.
In the center of Guangzhou City, Zhongshan Wulu- Beijing Lu is a frenzied shopping matrix with Beijing Lu as its hub. It opens from around 10 am until 10 pm, this is where the young and trendy shop for mid-range Hong Kong labels as well as popular local brands.
For Korean and Japanese goods, Zhuangyuan Fang (Number One Scholar Lane) on Renmin Nan lu is your first choice, due to it is known and is a favorite haunt of the young and fashionable. If you are interested in traditional Cantonese craftwork, you can visit Hualin Jadeware Street and Wende Cultural Shopping Street. If you are looking for Canton Carvings you may want to head to South Jade Carving Factory where you can find not only jade, but ivory and wooden sculptures as well. Wende Cultural Shopping Street, near Beijing Lu, is known as "Guangzhou's Gallery", since this street has some of the best shops selling calligraphy, paintings, carvings and Canton Enamel.
Guangzhou also has numerous department stores where you can find Chinese and international brands at competitive prices. The most famous department stores are Tee mall and China Plaza (Zhonghua Guangchang), packed with stylish boutiques selling the latest fashions.
For a different experience, go shopping in the middle of the night at one of the city's many night markets. Bargain hard, you must be patient, so, if you can't reach an agreement with one, you can always move on.
