Guangzhou Xinbaiyun Airport is 28 km from the city center. Currently it offers over 70 domestic and 20 international destinations, and is China’s third-largest after Beijing and Shanghai. The shuttle bus runs from 10:00 a.m. to midnight every day and departs from Arrival Hall A/7 Exit and Arrival Hall B/10 Exit. So it is convenient to take shuttle bus from the airport to the city center.
Guangzhou Railway Station is located on Huangshi West Road northwest of the city. Trains head north from Guangzhou to just about everywhere in China including BeiJing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Kunming, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Fuzhou, Shaoxing, FoShan, Zhongqing, Xian and Tianjin. It can be reached by Metro Line 2 and public buses. The Guangzhou-Maoming Railway and Guangzhou-Shantou Railway run east-west through Guangdong Province. Guangzhou East Railway Station mainly serves trains to Shenzhen and Shantou. Trains run between Guangzhou and Shenzhen everyday, every 15-30 minutes. It is also the east terminal station of Metro Line 1.
The subway system currently has 4 Lines, including lines of 1, 2, 3 and 4, covering most of the major destinations in Guangzhou. Subways operational hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Fares range from 2 RMB to 6 RMB, depending on trip length. The ticket purchase system is quite different from other big Chinese cities. Guangzhou is equipped with automatic ticket machines that accept coins and paper money, to be convenient, IC cards can be purchased at subway stations with a RMB 30 deposit, plus the cost of the stored value.
Currently Guangzhou has more than 16,000 taxies running in the city. Different taxi companies are represented by different colored cars, but most of them are blue or green. Fares start at 7 RMB during the day for the first 3 kilometers; each additional kilometer is 2.8 RMB, but after 30 kilometers, each additional kilometer is 5.9 RMB. Taxi drivers are fairly honest and enthusiasm, so it is safe for you to take a taxi, even it is your first time to be in Guangzhou. Some taxi drivers can speak English, so if you are not familiar with the city, they can offer you some help.
Buses in Guangzhou generally run from 6 am to 11 pm. Guangzhou also has several types of tourist buses, among which the most popular are Line 1, Line 2 and Line 3:
Line 1: From Tianhe bus terminus – Zhongshan Balu to Sanqi.
Line 2: From Tianhe bus terminus- Zhongshan Balu to Sanqi
Line 3: From the Animal park to Maofeng Mountain.
