Air

Haikou Meilan Airport, located in Meilan Town of Qiongshan City, is about 25 km from the center of Haikou. There are domestic flights flying to major cities  of China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Harbin, Chengdu, Haibin, Dalian and Xiamen, etc, there are also international flights to Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore and so on.

It will take about 30 minutes' drive from the airport to downtown Haikou. Airport buses leave for downtown every 30 minutes from 05:30 a.m. until the last flight of the day. The bus fare is 15 RMB per person. If you take a taxi, it may cost you about 60 RMB, after the bargain with the driver, the fare is about 30RMB -40RMB.

Railway

Haikou Railway Station, located nearby the seaside, the first Chinese rail connection that spans the sea, runs between Haikou and Guangzhou, is about 20 km from downtown. Trains runs between Sanya and Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing all take a stopover at Haikou.

Bus

The highway system of Hainan is relatively developed. National highways and the expressway circling the whole island all run through the province.

South Bus Station
Located at the intersection of Nanhai Dadao and Longkun Nan Lu, Haikou South Bus Station is the biggest long-distance bus station in Hainan. It connects several main highways and is responsible for the passenger transportation for 11 cities and counties. There are buses to Sanya (about three hours for a single journey), Lingshui, Wanning, Qionghai, Anding, Qiongzhong and Wuzhi Shan etc.

East Bus Station
Located at No. 148 Haifu Lu, it is another long-distance bus station serves bus to Qionghai, Boao and Xinglong, etc.

Chief Coach Station

West Coach Station
Address: 156, Haixiu Road, Haikou

Ferry

There are two ferry terminals-New Harbor (Xingang) and Xiuying Harbor in Haikou. There are more than 40 passenger ferries to the coastal cities as well as to Hong Kong daily. New Harbor has both passenger and car boats mainly from and to Zhanjiang Harbor and Haian Harbor while Xiuying Harbor has ferries from and to Guangzhou, Zhanjiang, Haian, Shekou, Beihai and Hong Kong.

Taxi

It is convenient to take a taxi getting around Haikou city. The taxi fare is 10 RMB for the first three kilometers, after which is 1.8 RMB per kilometer (2 RMB per additional kilometer for some relatively new-style taxis). The taxi drivers are also enthusiasm and patient to guide you to your destination.

Tour Bus

The bus in Haikou city is convenient and most of them are self-service ticketing bus. There are also special tour buses running among the main scenic spots like QiongTai Academy, Wugong Temple, Former Residence of Hairui, Wanlu Park, Hairui Park and Xiuying Ancient Emplacement etc.

Car Rental

There are more and more car rental companies in Hainan at present. Bigger companies usually have branches both in Haikou and Sanya; therefore it is convenient for you to rent a car in one place and return it in another place.
