Located in the southwest fringe of the Red Basin in southern Sichuan with Chengdu Plain to its north; the complicated topography descending down from the southwest to the northeast featuring as hills, mountains and alluvial plains.
Leshan is close to the mountain region of the southwest and lies along the alluvial plains of a number of rivers which include the Min, Jinsha, Qingyi, and Yangzi.
