The climate in Shigatse is characterized with thin air, low barometric pressure, thin oxygen and strong solar radiation. Although the annual temperature difference is small, the temperature difference between day and night is great. The average yearly temperature in the western cold region is zero while in the eastern warm region is 6.5 degrees centigrade. It has clearly demarcated dry and rainy seasons: the former is from every October to next April, dry, windy, cold with rare rain or snow (accounting for less than 10% of annual rainfall); the latter is from May to September, mild and humid (accounting for more than 90% of annual rainfall).
