With 16 domestic airports in Taiwan, it is easy to go to Taipei, Kaosiung and Tainan by air.
To Taipei: Airports in Hsiaokang, Taichung, Chiayi, Tainan, Hualien, Pingtung, Ma Kung, Taitung, Kinmen and Matsu all offer flights to Taipei Songshan Airport.
To Kaohsiung: there are several ways for passengers reaching Kaohsiung International Airport. One is from Taipei Songshan Airport; others are from airports in Taichung, Ma Kung, Hualien and Kinmen.
To Tainan: There are daily flights from Taipei to Tainan Airport.
The "MRT" is Taipei's Mass Rapid Transit light rail system. The system is extensive and the cars are convenient and comfortable. The MRT is often the fastest way to travel to distant parts of Taipei.
Using city buses is a convenient and comfortable way to travel around Taipei. Most buses are well air-conditioned, and often move nearly as quickly as taxis. The fare for each zone is currently NT$15.
Taxis in Taiwan are yellow. Most taxis in Taiwan are equipped with a milometer and passengers are charged the basic fare plus a surcharge for each 0.3Km traveled. The basic fare was NT$70 for the first 1.5 km, and NT$5 for each additional 0.3 km. There is a nighttime surcharge of 20% from 10p.m-- 6a.m.
Traveling by train is an extremely popular way of getting around Taiwan. There are two train stations in Taipei: Songshan Station to the city's east and Taipei Train Station at the city centre. Multiple trains depart daily to every region of Taiwan, and departures usually operate according to a reliable schedule. High-speed bullet trains travel to destinations across the west coast.
