Although situated in the Northwest part of China, Turpan is still one of the most popular tourism destinations in China. There, you can not only taste lots of Chinese other cuisnes, but also sample the local delicacies. Roasted Dumplings is made from first-class mutton, with added onions, salt and pepper. Sanzi is the local’s favorite snack and is one of the Hui snacks eaten at festivals. It is considered as a table delicacy for giving guests a special treat. Ququ (Wonton) is quite similar to Wonton in other parts of China. Its stuffing is made of mutton, onion, salt and pepper, in a square dough wrapper.
The best selection of places is around the crossroads of Qiunian Lu and Lao Cheng Lu. The Chipu Cafe is currently the pick of the crop round here, serving good Sichuan and Uigur food. Opposite the Turpan Hotel is John"s Information Cafe. This place serves good western food and offers invaluable advice about travel in the region. You can also hire bikes and organize drivers and donkey carts from here! Basic Uigur staples such as noodles and kebabs and Uigur Rice, are available from the small stalls and restaurants around Lao Cheng Lu.
