By Air

At present, Turpan does not have its own airport. Travelers who want to go to Turpan by air have to take a stopover at Urumqi. It is about 230 kilometers (142.9 miles) from the airport to Turpan city center and it takes only 2 hours' driving by expressway.

 

By Train

Turpan Railway Station is actually in the town called Daheyuan, 50 kilometers to the northwest of the city. Public buses shuttling along the way serve delivering passenger between the city and the station for around 5 yuan. Taxi drivers are willing to make the one-hour trip for about 40 yuan. In the railway station, there are frequent trains coming and going each day between Turpan and other cities in Xinjiang Province, such as Urumqi, Hotan, Kashgar and Korla. Apart from that, there are trains to and from many big cities of China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Jinan, Chongqing and Zhengzhou.

 

By Bus

In Turpan City, there are two bus stations: Turpan Bus Station and Daheyan Bus Station. They offer the convenient traffic within Xinjiang. Everyday, there are over 140 buses heading for the big cities such as Urumqi, Shanshan, Kashgar, Hotan, Tuokexun and Aqsu. As there are two important national highways -312 and 314 National highways intersecting in Turpan, coming and going here by bus is the most popular among the travelers.

 

Local Transportation

Public bus, Taxi, and donkey cart are the three main transportation means in Turpan. Currently, there are 8 public lines running through the city. In Turpan, taking a taxi is the best choice. It can not only save your time, but also can make you escape the high temperature. The price of taxi in Turpan is CNY5 for the first 3 kilometers (1.86 miles). Donkey carts can take travelers to some sights outside the city such as the Ruin of the Ancient Gaocheng City for a negotiated price.
