In ancient times, Wuwei was called Liangzhou and is located at the eastern part of Gansu Province. The Shiyang River flows through the entire district from south to north. There are 38 ethnic groups inhibited in Wuwei, mainly the Han, Tibetan, Hui, Mongolian and so on. As an important post on the Silk Road, Wuwei is one of famous historical and cultural cities approved by the State Council, the hometown of bronze galloping horse, which is the symbol of Chinese tourism and a strategic pass on the Silk Road. It is a national-level historical and cultural city with various tourist resources including Leitai Han Tomb, Wen Temple, Haizang Pagoda, Tiantishan Mountain Grottoes, Desert Park and so on.
