Beijing, once the capital of four dynasties in history and the capital of China today, was formerly called Peking in English. With a 3,000 years history and 11 million people, it is covering 16,808 square kilometers in area. It serves as the political, cultural, educational center and the most important center for international trades and communications in China.
Situated in Northeast China, Beijing borders Hebei Province to the north, west, south, and for a small section in the east, and Tianjin Municipality to the southeast. Five rivers run through the city, connecting it to the eastern Bohai Sea. Administratively, it is one of the four municipalities of the China, the other threes, (Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing). Beijing Hot Attractions:
Great Wall : Badaling Great Wall is the most impressive and the most visited section of the Great Wall of China. Constructed in 1502 during the Ming Dynasty, the Badaling Great Wall once served as an important military fortification.
Forbidden City:
Located in the middle of Beijing, Forbidden City was the Chinese royal palace from the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty.
Tiananmen Square : Tiananmen Square has been built for large public gatherings. -
Summer Palace: The Summer Palace, situated in the western suburbs of Haidian District, is 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) from downtown area of Beijing. With the largest royal park and being well preserved now, in 1960, it was designated by the State Council as a Key Cultural Relics Protection Site of China.
