Beijing is composed of 18 administrative sub-divisions, county-level units. 16 of them are districts and 2 of them are counties.

 

8 districts in urban and suburban areas of the city:
Dongcheng District, Xicheng District, Chongwen District, Xuanwu District, Chaoyang District, Haidian District, Fengtai District, Shijingshan District

 

6 districts in the more distant suburbs and satellite towns:
Mentougou District, Fangshan District, Tongzhou District, Shunyi District, Changping District, Daxing District, Huairou District, Pinggu District

 

2 counties located further out govern semirural and rural areas:
Miyun County, Yanqing County
