Chengdu Travel

Chengdu, located in southwest People's Republic of China, is the capital of Sichuan province and a sub-provincial city. Chengdu is also one of the most important economic centers and transportation and communication hubs in Southwestern China. The population is more than 10 million people. It is regarded as the starting point of the Southern Silk Road leading towards Europe. With a history of 2300 years, Chengdu is renowned for its fertile land and agricultural wealth which have earned the city the nickname “Storehouse of Heaven.” Chengdu is also the first of China's 30 provincial capitals to be awarded the title of "sanitary city."
For most foreign tourists Chengdu is synonymous with the panda. Sichuan Province is home to the majority of the world’s giant pandas and the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base is definitely the major attraction in Chengdu. Chengdu has been famous for its cultural heritages. Dujiangyan Irrigation Project and Qingcheng Mountain (the Taoist Mountain) were listed as the World Cultural Heritage Sites by UNESCO. Other famous attractions in Chengdu include the Leshan Giant Buddha, the world’s tallest Buddha statue, Mt. Emei, one of China’s four holy Buddhist Mountains.
