Guangtong-Dali Railway is connected with Chengdu-Kunming Railway at Guangtong Railway Station. There are daily trains from Kunming to Dali or vice versa. Trains to other major cities including Lijiang, Shangri-La County also exist.
There are three biggest long-distance bus stations of Xiaguan (the "new city"). They are all located on Jianshe Road. There are daily trains and long-distance buses to Xiaguan from Kunming. From Xiaguan, there is a direct bus (No.4) to the Old Town of Dali. The bus stop near the west gate in Dali offers daily buses to Shangri-La County and express buses to Kunming. Travel time by road to and from Kunming is about 3 hours and 30 minutes. Express buses to Lijiang and minibuses also leave from here. A bus leaves for Shaping every Monday morning for the market.
Local transport modes include city buses, taxis, bicycles, and boat on the Erhai Lake.
There are eleven buses altogether in the city proper of Dali. The transportation is very convenient.
It is very convenient for tourists to get to all scenic spots from Xiaguan by taxi. The starting fare is CNY5, and CNY1.4 will be charged for each kilometer, while for Santana brand taxis, the starting price is CNY6. An additional CNY1.6 is added per kilometer.
Bicycle will be the perfect choice for those who want to wander around the ancient City of Dali. The rental fare for one day is usually is about CNY 10-20, and a deposit is paid in advance.
For those who want to enjoy the beauty and unique charm of Erhai Lake, the best choice is to go by boat on the Erhai Lake to the north of Xiaguan
