There are many ways to come to and leave Guilin, such as air, train, boat or bus. Tour in Guilin, the most convenient for tourist to get around is by taxi or bycicle
Taking flight is the most convenient way to come to Guilin. You can directly fly from most major domestic cities and directly from Hong Kong , Japan , Korea , Macau and Thailand.
Guilin Liangjiang International Airport is 30 kilometers west of the city. Most large hotels have shuttles available (with prior notice). Other airport shuttles cost a more reasonable fee about RMB20 and operate without a fixed schedule. A taxi into the city will cost around RMB80-RMB100. A airport bus is available for departing passengers each half hour from the CAAC office at the intersection of Minzhu Lu and Shanghai Lu, just east of the train station. Either way, it takes 40 minutes to get to the airport.
In China, train system is very vast and it is the main vehicle focused on serving its large population who fully understand how the train network operates and of course, speak Chinese. And what’s more, it is much cheaper means of transport than traveling by air. Traveling by train is certainly achievable and can be a great way to get to know the people, the culture and to see the country side at a more leisurely pace.
For the intercity arrive and leave, coach can be the best choice, because there are commonly expressways among major cities. The coach network in China is also very good. Most routes from major cities are serviced by new long distance coaches that are comfortable and have seatbelts fitted to the coaches. Tickets are obtained from the bus station. For most short distance buses that service nearby towns like Yangshuo and Xing'an leave from the old railway station in the west. These buses should be inexpensive (RMB10-20 to Yangshuo)
The most popular and spectacular tour is riding down the Lijiang River from Guilin to Yangshuo. You can rent a boat down the Lijiang by yourself or gather with other visitors. Boat tickets can be bought through your hotel or at the ticket office on Binjiang Road near the Lijiang River and south of Fir Lake.
The best way to get around in Guilin is either by taxi or bicycle. Taxis are relatively more expensive than Bike, but compared to other cities, it is inexpensive. Bicycles can be rented by hours or the day at hotels throughout Guilin (RMB15-20) and at many cafes and hostels in Yangshuo (RMB10).
