Located in the Yangtze River Delta in China, Hangzhou is a sub-provincial city and is the capital of Zhejiang province. It is the political, economic and cultural center of Zhejiang province as well. It is Located about 180 kilometers southwest of Shanghai. As one of the most renowned and prosperous tourism cities of China, Hangzhou is also well-known for its beautiful natural scenery, historical and cultural heritage with the West Lake as the most well-known location.
There is no doubt that The West Lake is the most renowned feature of Hangzhou. it provides the idyllic image of Hangzhou that most people leave with. This huge circular fresh water lake, covering 3km from north to south and 3kms from east to west, is surrounded by hills on three sides and the city on the fourth. Two picture- postcard causeways cross the lake and three islands float in the middle. There are numerous historical relics and sights scattered about the Lake, including the famous Buddhist temple, Lingyin Temple. You can see many of Hangzhou's sights in a couple of days. However, this is a nice place to relax and do some good walking and eating. So if possible, plan to spend at least a few days here, it must leave you feeling refreshed and recharged.

Gongshu District: north of the core area, along the canal
Shangcheng District: one of two core districts, south of Xiacheng
Xiacheng District: one of the two core districts, north of Shangcheng
Jianggan District: east of the core area, north of the river
Xihu District: includes West Lake and most of the parks
Binjiang District: south of the Qiantang River, Hangzhou's Pudong
Yuhang District: outer areas to the north & west
Xiaoshan District: outer areas south of the Qiantang River to the south & east
