Lanzhou Travel

Beijing_mapLanzhou is a prefecture-level city and capital of Gansu province in northwestern China. It is situated in the middle of Gansu province with a history of more than 2000 years. Now, Lanzhou is the only city which the Yellow River passes through the urban district. It served as a regional communication and transportation hub since ancient times.

Lanzhou is not a major tourist spot, but it is an important stopover in the ancient Silk Road. There features many cultural heritage sites, such as the Bingling Temple (also called Thousand Buddha Caves), and a 27-meter-high Buddha at the White Pagoda Hill, Gansu Provincial Museum (the biggest comprehensive museum in Gansu).

As a bustling city with a modern downtown area, there are lots of western boutiques and fast food outlets, as well as more traditional markets and temples. The Yellow River flows through the city from west to east, therefore, boat trips are available there. However, the rugged topography in this city does give the city a certain unique charm with many friendly ethnic groups.

Today Lanzhou has a population of 3.14 million with 2.07 million at urban area. With its rapid economic development, it has been turned into a major industrial city and transport center in northwest of China.
