Potala Palace, situated on the Red Hill in Lhasa, means "the Sacred Palace of Buddhism" in Sanskrit. Known as a historical and cultural museum of Tibetan Buddhism, the Potala Palace houses many artifacts of ancient Tibet, such as frescos, stupas and images of Buddha. People feel amazing about the colorful sculptures and paintings there. In December 1994, the Potala Palace of Lhasa was put on the UNESCO's list of World Cultural Heritage. Located on Barkhor Square in Lhasa, the Jokhang Temple is the first Buddhist temple in Tibet. It is also the Sacred Temple of all Tibetan Buddhists. All year-round many Tibetan Buddhists go on a pilgrimage to Lhasa, from all over Tibet and other provinces like Qinghai, Gansu and Inner Mongolia, and their destination is the Jokhang Temple. Along with the Potala Palace, it is probably the most popular tourist attraction in Lhasa. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Historic Ensemble of the Potala Palace" and a spiritual centre of Lhasa.

Located at the foot of Mount Gephel Drepung Monastery, Drepung Monastery is one of the "great three" Gelukpa university monasteries of Tibet. The other two are Ganden and Sera. Drepung Monastery used to be the largest and most influential monastery, with more than 10,000 monks. View Photos
Ganden Monastery is located in the Tagtse County, 47 kilometers (29 miles) from Lhasa City, atop the Wangbur Mountain at an altitude of 3800m.
