The Ancient town of Lijiang was located at the foot of the Yulong Snow Mountain. It also called “Dayan Zheng” (the Town of Big Ink Slab) because the town is surrounded by tree-covered mountains on all sides with crystal clear water running in the middle of it. It has the appearance of a big jade ink slab. Covering an area of 3.8 square kilometers, the Lijiang ancient town stands at an elevation of 2,400 meters.
The Yulong Snow Mountain lies 18 kilometers north of the town of Lijiang Naxi Autonomous County. The Mountain glitters crystal pure brilliance, resembling a silvery dragon which never ceases frolicking against the background of the azure skies. The Mountain hence got its name the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. View Photos
Tiger Leaping Gorge, tucked between the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and the Haba Mountain, is the world's deepest river canyon. It is 15 kilometers (9 miles) long with many white water rapids. The gorge got its name from a legend that says in Dynastic China, a tiger attempting to escape a hunter jumped across the gorge at the narrowest point, which is 25 meters wide. View Photos
