The uniqueness of the city geography makes Shanghai tour extraordinary and fascinating.Located on the Yangtze River Delta on China's eastern coast, Shanghai is roughly equal from Beijing and Hong Kong. It is bordered on the north and west by Jiangsu Province, on the south by Zhejiang Province, and on the east by the East China Sea.

 

On the east tip of the delta, it covers an area of 6,340.5 square kilometers (2,448.1 square miles). The altitude of the city lies between three and five meters. The city's location on the flat alluvial plain has meant that new skyscrapers must be built with deep concrete piles to stop them sinking into the soft ground. The city proper is bisected by the Huangpu River, a tributary of the Yangtze. The historic center of the city, the Puxi area, is located on the western side of the Huangpu, while a new financial district, Pudong, has developed on the eastern bank.

 

In addition, Shanghai has some offshore islands, such as Dajinshan Island, Xiaojinshan Island and Fushan Island. Among them, Dajinshan Island with an altitude of 103.4 meters is the peak of Shanghai. There are also alluvial islands, which are Chongming, Changxing and Hengsha in the estuary of Yangtze River to the north of Shanghai mainland. With an area of 1014.21 square kilometers, Chongming is the third largest island in China. The city has many rivers, canals, streams and lakes and is known for its rich water resources as part of the Taihu drainage area.

 

Natural resources are not abundant in Shanghai, where is not a good habitat for wild animals, so animals there are always domestic. Shanghai also lacks mineral resources and energy sources. Only crude oil and natural gas are found in the offing of East China Sea and south Yellow Sea near Shanghai.
