Xi'an is situated in the center of the Guanzhong Plains, surrounded by Mountains in the south and the Wei River in the north. Therefore, it has a continental monsoon climate which is warm and damp with four distinct seasons. Summers are usually hot and wet, and winters tend to be cold and dry. July to September is the wet season. It has an annual average temperature of 13℃, January is the coldest month with its average temperature being -1.3℃ and July the hottest month with the average temperature being 26.7℃. The yearly average rainfall is 604.2 mm, concentrating in July, August and September. Spring and autumn are favorite times to travel to Xi'an, although generally the weather is pleasant all year round.
