Tibet Autonomous Region is located in southwest China, the main part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The region has an average elevation of more than 4,000 meters. Nagchu Prefecture of Tibet is a region of extreme poverty with a long history of violence. Nagchu encompasses 11 counties in northern Tibet. It is one of Tibet highest towns. It is also one of the coldest and windiest cities in Tibet.
Situated in the southeastern side of Tibet Autonomous Region, Nyingchi city is well adorned with its magical panorama. Nyingchi in Tibetan language means The Grand Throne of Sun. It is situated at an average altitude of 3000 m which is comparatively lower to other cities of Tibet.
Shigatse is a county-level city and the second largest city in Tibet Autonomous Region, Peoples Republic of China, with a population of 80,000, about 250 km (160 mi) southwest of Lhasa and 90 km (56 mi) northwest of Gyantse. It is located at an altitude of 3,840 metres (12,600 ft) at the confluence of the Yarlung Zangbo (aka Brahmaputra) and Nianchuhe (Nyang Chu) rivers
Located on the southern bank of the middle reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River, Shannan is 3,600 meters above sea level. This area has a mild climate. Shannan area is regarded as the birthplace of tibetan culture.
