Xian, formerly known as Changan, is the capital of the Shaanxi province in China and a sub-provincial city. As one of the oldest cities in Chinese history, Xian is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. With more than 3,100 years history, Xian is the eastern terminus of the Silk Road and known as the site of the Terracotta Army. 。。。。。。
Banpo is a typical site of Yangshao Culture Which belongs to Neolithic Age of China. Remains of the Culture were located mainly in the middle and lower of reached of the Yellow River. The Banpo site, occupying an area of approximate 50000 square kilometer, is divided into three sections, the living section, the pottery-making section and the burial sections. The Banpo Museum consists of two Exhibition Hall and a site Hall. The First Exhibition Hall mainly has mainly production tools and vessels used by the Banpo people on display. The second exhibition hall is used for auxiliary exhibitions about prehistoric cultures, arts, customs, and so on.
The Bell Tower was first built in the Yingxiang Temple in 1384, which used to mark the center of the city. It was moved to its present place site in 1582 as a result of the citys expansion program. The base of the tower is 1,337.4 square meters in size, 8.6 meters high and 35.5 meters wide. It was laid with blue bricks all over. The whole building, 36 meters above ground, is a brick-and-wood structure. Three storeys of eaves can be seen from the exterior of the building, but there are only two storeys inside.
Located in southern Xian, Shaanxi province, China, it was built in 652 during the Tang Dynasty and originally had five stories. One of the functions of pagoda was to hold sutras and figurines of the Buddha that were brought to China from India by the Buddhist translator and traveler Xuanzang.
The construction of the City Wall of Xian was initiated by Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty, who was in regime between 1370 and 1378 AD. The city walls here were actually built on the fortifications of the Tang Forbidden City. The military defense facilities here including the city wall, city moat, drawbridges, watchtowers, corner towers, parapet walls and gate towers once made up a complete city defense system.
Drum Tower is 1,924 square meters in size of the base, and 34 meters in height. It was also built with blue bricks. The building takes a rectangular shape and show tiers of eaves. It has only two storeys inside. There are corridors around the tower on each tier. The outer eaves are decorated with networks of wood arches. The elegance and grandeur of its structure reveals much of the superb workmanship of the Chinese people.
The Forest of Stone Steles Museum was originally set up in 1087. The treasure house comprises a large collection of centuries-old stone tablets. Over 3,000 stone tablets from the Han Dynasty through the Qing Dynasty are preserved. The museum houses numerous stone tablets, which looks like a dense forest, hence its name the Forest of Stone Tablets. The museum, covering an area of 31,000 square meters, is divided into seven major exhibition halls, which mainly displayed ancient calligraphy, historical records and stone carvings.
Huaqing Hot Spring(Huaqing Chi) is located at the foot of Lishan Mountain, about 35 kilometers to the east of Xian. It has quite favorable geographical location, boasting green mountains and blue water. The hot spring has 6000 years of history, in which it is used as royal gardens for 3000 years.
Qianling Mausoleum lies on Liangshan Hill, six kilometers north of Qianxian County, and about 80 kilometers northwest of Xian.The mausoleum was built in 684 A. D., and brought into completion 23 years later. It is made up of three peaks in which the two peaks on the southern section are artificial while the higher northern peak is natural and it is also the main part of the tomb.
Shaanxi History Museum is situated in the southern suburb of Xian City, northwest of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. It covers 65,000 square meters, with a building area of 60,000 square meters. The newly built modern building features Tang-dynasty architecture and successfully symbolizes the great extent of Shaanxi history and its remarkable culture. The exhibition space is divided into three main exhibition halls: the Basic Exhibition Hall, the Theme Exhibition Hall and the East Exhibition Hall.
The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is located in the Jianfu Temple, one kilometers south from the downtown area in Xian city. It was set up in 707 A. D.. It has 16 storeys and is about 45 meters above ground. As a result of the earthquake, the top two storeys of the pagoda were destroyed. The present structure has only 13 storeys.
The Terracotta Army were buried with the first Emperor of Qin (Qin Shi Huangdi) in 210-209 BC. They were discovered in 1974 by some local farmers near Xian, Shaanxi province, China near the Mausouleum of the First Qin Emperor. In order to keep the terra-cotta warriors and horses well-protected, a museum was built on the site of the terra-cotta warriors and horses pits. Now the museum is widely known as a huge modern site museum and it is going to be one of the best in the world.
The Great Mosque was first built in the Tang Dynasty (reign of Emperor Xuanzong, 685-762), and renovated in later periods (especially during the reign of Emperor Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty). It remains a popular tourist site of Xian, and is still used by Chinese Muslims (mainly the Hui people) today as a place of worship. Unlike most mosques in Middle Eastern or Arab countries, the Great Mosque of Xian is completely Chinese in its construction and architectural style, except for some Arabic lettering and decorations, for the mosque has neither domes nor traditional-style minarets.
The performance of Tang Dynasty, a performance of Changan music and dance originated in China Tang Dynasty over a thousand years ago. It has been recreated in accordance with various historical records as well as ancient art and relics discovered in Xian, the capital of the empire during the Tang Dynasty.
