Zhangjiajie is a prefecture-level city in the northwestern part of Hunan province in China. It comprises the districts of Yongding, Cili and Sangzhi counties. Within it is located Wulingyuan Scenic Area which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. The estimated population of Zhangjiajie, as of 2002, is 1,568,200. 。。。。。。
Baofeng Lake features beautiful natural scenery. It is located in the mountains, with abundant water and fresh air. Green trees and stone peaks of various shapes surround the lake. There are also marvelous running waterfalls, pouring out like troops from heaven descending to the world. Yixiantian Valley, which is less than 4 meters wide on average, is another wonderful scenic spot. Only a line of the sky can be seen from the bottom of the valley, which resembles a silk thread, seemingly long and thin. The length, narrowness, and depth here are rare in national scenic spots.
Named after the 380-meter high Golden Whip Rock (Golden Whip Rock) , Golden Whip stream meanders 15 Li. Flowing from Laomo Gully first to Confluence of Four Rivers then to Suoxi Stream, it finally joins Li river, one of the four rivers in Hunan Province.
For long time being,Tianmen Mountain not only attracts the attention of the people by its miraculous and unique geographic landform and unparalleled natural landscape, but also well known for its profound cultural connotations and famous colorful humanistic site. It is revered as the soul of cultural and spirit of Zhangjiajie and reputed as Number one Miraculous mountain in western Hunan.
Tianzishan is known for 4 natural spectacles - the clouds of mist that circle the peaks of the mountain, the amazing views of the rising sun, the moonlit nights and snowcapped winter peaks. 6 tourist areas have been built to accommodate visitors and they include more than 80 natural platforms to take in the magnificent scenery. Visitors can also reach the peaks of the mountain by cable car.
The Yellow Lion Village (Huangshi zhai) is the highest village in the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. The village is actually a 1,200 meter high plateau. Stone steps lead to the top, a quiet area relatively free of tourists where people can witness the beautiful karst formations of the local crags.
Yellow Dragon Cavern is a typical karst cave. In the process of formation, water plays an extremely important role. Flowing into the fissures of the karst layer, water constantly dissolves the limestone rock, thereby widening the crevice. This process continues year after year and thus the caves are created.
97 percent of the Zhangjiajie Forest Park is covered with plants as many as 98 families 517species, which is more than twice the species all over Europe. The Gymnosperm species here has covered half of those in the world.It is noted for its queer peaks, tranquil water and beautiful forests. It is famous for its primitive and natural beauty. There are also many scenic spots, such as the Yellow Stone Stronghold (Huangshizhai) and Golden Whip Brook.
