Dragon Boat Festival. Dragon Boat Festival . China
Dragon Boat Festival falls on the 5th day of the fifth lunar month. This festival is established to commemorate Quyuan, a great poet 2000 years ago, who drowned himself in the Minluo River to protest against an unjust ruler. On that day, the local people got on the dragon boat and beat drums to scare the fish and shrimp away from eating the remains of the deceased poet. They also made zongzi, a kind of food with glutinous rice wrapped in reed leaves, to throw into the river so that the fish and shrimp are lured to eat zongzi instead of eating the poets body.
